From Flatpack to Lineside

From Flatpack to Lineside

How does a Rail Model laser-cut kit go from flat components to a finished lineside building?

In this post, we follow the process from cutting and packing to assembly.

For the build, we’re using our small 7mm Fog Hut. The opening video shows a signal box being cut, but the process is typical of many of our building kits.

Your kit will arrive either on a fret or packed in grip-seal bags, which are handy to reuse around the workshop.

The instructions guide you through the build, often with photographs or drawings to help along the way. Experienced modellers may have their own preferred methods of assembly and detailing.

Here, the panels have been glued to the frames, ready to slot into the base and form the shell.

Fog Hut Walls & Interior

With the walls assembled, the hut starts to take shape.

The diorama below shows the finished Fog Hut on the left, complete with an occupant warming himself beside the fire drum.

From flatpack components to a little scene full of character, ready for a place beside the line.
